Dental Fillings in Melbourne & Palm Bay, FL

When repairing a cavity, we first numb the site and isolate it to protect the rest of the mouth from debris material.  Next we clean and shape the cavity, removing decay material as well as any previous dental filling material associated with that decay. Deeper areas may require special procedures and liners to protect and soothe the dental nerve.  Composite resin is a frequent choice to build the bulk of the filling. Gold or glass Ionomers are also used in selected cases depending on the needs of a particular patient
Composite fillings provide good durability for small to medium cavities, and can usually be closely matched to the color of the surrounding tooth structure.  Because the composite materials actually bond well to natural tooth structure they are particularly useful for repair of fractured teeth or reshaping the appearance of malformed teeth. The procedure typically involves removing less of a tooth than you would during an amalgam filling. They are also nice for treating front or highly visible teeth because of their natural look.

When can a composite filling be used for?
  • Decayed tooth (i.e. cavity)
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Decreasing the gap between teeth

How its done
Once the area is numb, isolated, and cleaned out, the tooth surface is etched to permit a durable bond of the filling material to the tooth and cured with a special light. Once this is complete, the filling is applied in thin layers to slowly form the complete filling. After the composite has hardened, the filling will be smoothened and polished to be comfortable and fit your bite.
